Grand Reception for summer interns
On Saturday, 7 June 2008, Global Conscience organised a grand reception for seven international interns who will be working in Kumba through the summer. The welcome party took place in the Akamat snac-bar along treasury street in Kumba. Global Conscience patron, Mawoh John Chokeh of Prestige Pharmacy, welcome the interns. GCI staff and friends were also present to share in a fun that lasted till dawn.

Prior to the party, the interns participated in a football encounter at the SOWEFCO football field along Buea Road.
Read about the matchGood beats and good eats would be the best way to describe the intern welcome party hosted by GCI on June 7th for the seven international interns they are hosting for the summer.
The generosity of the people in Cameroon, the individuals at GCI in particular, has been overwhelming from the start. This party came as yet another wonderful surprise.
The food was delicious, the watermelon especially sweet and the chicken seasoned to perfection. After the food, drinks were provided for all and that's when the fun truly began. The DJ turned the makossa up and a fury of dancing, which lasted well into the night, soon followed.
But the fun did not stop there. At around 11pm the interns were caught off guard by yet another generous surprise offered up by Edwin. We were taken to a local watering hole, owned by Edwin (a friend and close confidant of GCI) and provided more food and drink on the house. From there we were escorted to the best (and only) nightclub in Kumba where we enjoyed a bottle of whisky (on the rocks!) and danced well into the wee hours of the morning.
The intens of GCI cannot stress enough how grateful they are for the continuous generosity of their bosses and hope that one day we will be given the chance to return the kindness.
Global Conscience Initiative v. The Interns
Saturday the 7 th of June saw the employees, volunteers and interns of GCI pitted against one another for a battle royale to rival that of any Euro Cup match. Although it should be noted that the match was not so aptly named as there were interns on both teams. This was, without a doubt, for the best.
Alexa, Casey, and Hannah (hailing from Canada and the United States respectively) joined Chispus, Tawe, and McDaniel, along with a slew of local Cameroonian soccer players, on the team that would eventually win 6-2. Hannah, the top scorer of the team had four goals and Alexa and Casey each had one. Chrispus and McDaniel did phenomenal work setting the ladies up for victory. As goalie, Tawe was also an invaluable asset to the team and will henceforth be known as ‘The Wall.'
However, the remarkable skill and effort of the other team must not be overlooked. Laura, Karen, Stephanie and Dave along with Ebeny and Miriam gave the opposition a run for their money. Dave was a powerhouse of defense in the second half and Laura ran circles around Casey and Hannah on more than one occasion.
The match ended with everyone appropriately exhausted. After a series of sweaty hugs and handshakes the teams parted with smiles on their faces, looking forward to a rematch the following week.
