Saturday March 22, 2008:     Prisoners Have Human Rights

Global Conscience Initiative is holding a workshop for prison workers on Saturday March 22, 2008. The workshop is a product of a needs assessment survey we carried out in the prisons and is just the first of a series of projects and activities we plan to improve on the overall condition of the entire prison community. Our goal is purely humanitarian and intended to achieve international standards for our prison communities.

Global Conscience hopes to have 30 warders, police and gendarmerie officers, lawyers and civil society representatives, ex-convicts, journalists and retired prison workers participate at the workshop that shall aim to produce a human rights manual for the prisons.

Key resources for the workshop shall be the Criminal Procedure Code, the Cameroon Constitution and other national and international laws to which Cameroon is a state party. The methodology of the workshop shall be brief presentations, brainstorming, questions and answer sessions and exchange of experiences.

The workshop will be held in Global Conscience’s office situated on the first floor of the storey building across from the High Court and will run from 9.00am prompt until 4.00pm.
