Administrative detention is imprisonment by government executive without trial for the purpose of "maintenance of law and order" or to keep the peace. DOs, SDOs, Governors and other top administrative officers have the powers to order for the arrest and imprisonment without trial of persons for renewable period of time ranging from three days to thirty days. They may renew the detentions indefinitely.
GCI is very worried about the conduct of Administrative detentions in Cameroon as, for the most part, it violates a broad range of constitutional and human rights and administrators commonly abuse administrative detentions to settle personal differences.
